Tips on how to Turn your Office into a Space for Work and Relaxation

Many say they work well in a high-stress office situation. Be honest, what percentage of us can definitely say that we can? Staying relaxed at the office regardless of the atmosphere is very important because it determines how we perform while shifting through the endless demands of deadlines after deadlines. A more relaxed paced at work is an important element to working more productively. When I am relaxed, I find that I think better, my creativity flows better which allows me to be more productive. To help me achieve this goal, I made some important changes to how my office looks. Here are my suggestions for creating a more relaxing workspace:

1. Design your workspace so that it is appealing to you.

What feeling do you get when you walk into a sterile corporate office? For me it does not even suggest that people work there. One of the many ways to spice it up is to add some color. A small amount of color is not going to hurt your reputation, it will only enhance your mood each time you’re working. The next is to display things delight the senses: A photograph, a favourite painting, or any décor that puts you in a good mood is ideal for your office. How you react emotionally to how your working environment looks in general decides how efficient or productive you’ll be in the office.

2. Remove the the clutter.

When I look at a cluttered work area, it makes me think that the person working there is stress, overwhelmed, and disorganized. I do my best to straighten up my office before and after I work. I find it tough to focus when there is unnecessary clutter on my desk or other spaces in my office. The only items I keep on my desk are things related to the current task that I am working on. File or store everything else in drawers, shelves, or cabinets.

3. Decorate with plants.

Plants are wonderful addition to any workplace. Plants provide health advantages as well because of the oxygen they generate. Watering your plants regularly is  important. The condition of your plants says pretty much about you – healthy plants – healthy career and dying plants – dead career.

4. Make it smell good.

Imagine walking into a workplace that is smelly. Usually my two dogs accompany me at the office so I am mindful of general hygiene of my office. Certain fragrances have a direct effect on one’s productivity.  For example, lemon and lavender produced the most significant positive results.

5. Play relaxing music – especially music by Mozart

Experience various types of music to see what effect they have on you. Headphones are okay to use if you need to keep from disturbing others.

6. Buy a decent chair.

Buy good office chair that allows your body to relax while working. That means a chair ergonomically designed so that your spine is straight and allows you to sit for hours without feeling any pain or discomfort. There is an selection of style and design for office chairs.

7. Add a portable fan.

Even with good air conditioning, you might have periods where you just want to feel just a little cooler, or maybe you would like a bit of air circulation. Use a small portable fan to keep your comfort level right where you want it to be.

8. Add a fountain.

If you like the sound of running water, consider adding a small fountain such as an indoor water wall to your workspace. An indoor water wall comes in a number of style and design: wall mounted water wall, traditional or contemporary wall fountains. There are so many benefits in having a water fountain in your office. It provides a relaxing environment and as well as many health benefits.

9. Personalize home office.

Your office is your own living area for much of the time that you are working, so make your office an extension of your own personality. A good way to accomplish this is by adding items such as photographs or certificates on the wall. Do not limit yourself to just photos; you can also add memorabilia to personalize your space.
